It has been a bit of a mission in the garden, the leaves are dropping which are perfect for collecting as mulch. The one thing about having a large garden is that there is loads of work to be done at this time. I really get very involved when I am trimming and then when I think it is done there is more, it is good I like gardening and pottering around in the cooler weather. My animals and I spend any spare moment we can steal for time in the garden.
I have Bosley a white fluffy rescue dog and Pippa is my daughters dachshund which has come to stay with us until Bosley is use to Maya being gone. We just lost our German Shepard (Maya) 1 month ago and since then Bosley keeps looking for her and wondering off and we are beside ourselves as what to do.
I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions on what we could do. Just leave a note below.
I am still working on fixing the veranda post, hang on, have I told you about the posts, anyway if not here we go. I have a large veranda which runs around the house and down the bottoms of each post is capping and they are still waiting on me to finish what I started 3 years ago so I have finally started. I first sanded and scrapped the old paint off and nailed them down to be solid, Oh I bought myself a nail gun. I just love it now anything that looks like it needs nailing it is done and dusted before you know it.
After stabilizing the posts I started filling and putting around all the post joins with a new putty which was recommended to me from the Bunning man. Everything was going along nicely and then when I had almost finishing it started raining, it rained for the next 2 days and everything was wet through. With a coffee in hand I started off for a walk around the garden and house to see what or if any damage after the rain. apart form loads of puddles of mud the garden was fine but on close inspection to my posts I discovered that most of the putty I had used had either washed away or bubbles and was totally ruined. Can you imagine what my face looked like, I could not believe it, after the many renovations that I had done over the 30 years of being here this had never happen, 1st up was to work out what had happened, I started reading the container it came from and it clearly stated interior and exterior for uses on brick, timber, cement and metal so what happened, more coffee was needed and a seat. I re read it all and was baffled but then I saw a small line down the bottom of the container and really it was so small I had to get the magnify glass to read it and can you believe it, it said do not get wet until primed and painted, who wrights one of the most important things so small down the bottom of the container. I will make sure this doesn’t happen again and like nan would say you should try to learn something new every day, yep I learnt something new today. It looks like a trip back to Bunnings.
It’s few days later and I have started the posts again and the new putty is going well so I am back on track with this reno and I can’t wait for it to be over but it is a long way before then, the reno list for this job goes as such, stabilize posts, putty, sand, putty again, wipe post down for painting, then finally 2 coats of paint and we are finished.
The shop is going along fine with steady orders coming in but not much time for new designs but I did receive a large order for 32 puppets which will be in a performance in front of 400 people at a school in Canberra which is so exciting.
I am always looking for inspiration on what to make next in the shop so if any of you guys have any ideas I would love to hear from you.
When I go out I love going to estate sales, garage sales or car boot sales, If you really look you can find so many amazing things for repurposing or repairing or just plain old cleaning it up and using it. If I don’t get to any of these places I often go to country markets which usually are held at the local football ovals or racecourses, with loads of beautiful foods to be had and trinkets to be found for that special gift coming up and the smell of fresh coffee do I need to say anymore.
It was mothers day yesterday and I was spoiled rotten with lunch, and visits from my kids, I could not ask for anything more. I also managed to fit in morning tea with mum, it was my 59th Mothers Day with her and I loved it.
Well it is time for me to go.
Until we meet again
Jen (Jenzo) (Mum) (Mumzo) (Mama)
